How to be successful at social media

Create a friendly atmosphere on your page and make it inviting for people viewing. Be polite, answer messages and reply to comments. Follow people back and make sure you like their images back too. Share the love!

Make sure images are professional and have good lighting and a good clean background. You don't need to spend money on an expensive camera as most phones these days have decent camera's on them anyway. Just make sure you use it well by focusing on the item you are photographing. You can also use photo editing tools to make your photos look better. Just don't distort the colour too much otherwise it won't be true to real life.

Keep your descriptions relevant to the image and make sure you include an action for the viewer to take, like heading to your website or shop.

On Instagram: Make sure you take advantage of the 30 hashtags you can use. Make them relevant and use ones that aren't so popular as this will mean you are more likely to be seen when people search hashtags. As very popular ones that over 1 million people have used, your image will get lost as it will refresh constantly. Posts with 11+ hashtags have far more engagement. You can also tag up to 10 accounts in one post and I suggest you tag @shophandmadeuk if you would like a free feature!

Never use hashtags on Facebook as posts without them do much better.

Make sure your about page/bio is relevant and includes what your business sells and where you are based, this helps customers relate to you and it can even help you get more local sales.

Post regularly. On Facebook and Instagram aim to post 1-2 times a day on each! With the best time to post on Facebook being between 1-4pm and for Instagram anytime is the best time! By posting regularly it means that your images are being seen more often and potentially by different people(especially if you are using different hashtags for each post), this way you are more likely to get more sales as more people are seeing your work. On Facebook you can even schedule posts to make your life a little easier. Just sit down one evening and schedule posts for a couple of weeks and they will upload automatically, this way you can just focus on Instagram everyday instead as Instagram usually gains you more customers and engagement.

Hold giveaways and competitions every now and again and make sure one way to enter it is to tag friends as this way your work can be seen by more people and you could gain more followers and customers also.
