Shophandmadeuk's Mother's Day Gift Guide 2023

Shophandmadeuk's Mother's Day Gift Guide 2023

Mothering Sunday - Sunday 19th March 2023.

Mother's Day is a day to celebrate the loving bond between mother and child. But it can be a sensitive subject and time for many, some who can't be a mother, some who have lost their mother, etc. I think this day should be used to celebrate the 'mother like figure' in your life, whether that is your mum, auntie, grandma, sister, cousin or friend. It should be spent with someone who inspires you to be your best self, someone who is there for you when you need it most, at the happy times and the low times.

Of course you don't need to spend money to show someone you care but if you do want to show your appreciation then here are a few gift ideas you could purchase for that special woman in your life.

Shopping small is so important, now more than ever. Let's support the individuals who make and sell their own handcrafted items... items made with blood, sweat, tears and a whole load of love. Let's help small businesses as much as we can because when you purchase from a small business an actual person does a happy dance! Ask any of us, it's true! I promise! You can also find some great priced items from small businesses too, so even if you are on a tight budget you can still shop small!

This Mother's Day remember: Buy one of one, not one of one million!

Here is a small selection of some small handmade businesses and their products that I think you will love and hopefully (fingers crossed) want to purchase something from this Mother's Day!

Rebecca Spikings Design:

I combine my love of illustration and textiles to design and create paper and textile prints, cards and gifts. I'm endlessly inspired by the beautiful Cornish countryside and coastal path around where I live. I love the colours and forms of nature and the changing seasons. I aim to capture in my work, the moments of joy when you're out exploring and come across a wild bloom in the hedgerow or wings in the sky, the magic of new growth in spring or seed heads left behind in autumn and winter.

Timeless jewellery that is created lovingly from high quality and responsibly sourced materials. Although I have seen my grandmother crochet for years I actually started making things to get rid of the boredom and loneliness. I have only started my business about a year and half back.
I make all things crochet such as baby clothes, blankets, stuffed toys and comforters. I also make home decorations, cushion covers and key chains.

I am an embroidery artist and I specialise on making  baby ultrasound (scan) embroideries. I understood how emotional and sentimental gifts these can make and I would love to be a part of those precisely moments. I also do portrait embroideries of families, couples etc.
